Multilingualism is the use of more than one language, either by an individual speaker or by a community of speakers.
So, as we all already know, nowadays learning more than one language other than your mother tongue is very important. It is important in many aspects such as in education, career, economy, tourism and even in daily life well-being. So today, I would to list why learning multiple languages are very important right now.
1. GAINS THE AWARENESS OF CROSS-CULTURE
- When you know or learn a lot of languages, you can expand your world view about something which can come from different aspects which then will eventually lead to the appreciation of cultural diversity.
- There are certain customs and social institutions which have a specific name or term in one language but another. For example, Japanese has a formal occasion when the prospective bride and her family meet with the prospective bridegroom and his family for the first time. This tradition is called Miai or Omiai. So, in other languages, there is no name or term which corresponds to this word.

2. APPRECIATES INTERNATIONAL WORKS
- You also be able to appreciate international works better. It can come from various categories such as literature, theater, music, film, book and many more.
- You can understand better all international works because you are able to access and discover it in their real form.
- One of the most famous international works is the Harry Potter series which have been sold over 400 million copies worldwide . All of the books in the series have been translated into almost 68 languages throughout the world. It also have been adapted into film which became a blockbuster movie. The sequel of the series, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child also have been made into theater in London.
- Although many international works have been translated into thousands of languages but there are still some terms which they need to keep it in their real form in other to make sure that the meaning is still the same.

3. INCREASING THE GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING
- When you know other people languages, you can easily communicate and adapt with them without any language barrier. In this term, you already can make a lot of friends with people from various countries. Thus, it will strengthen our global relationship.
- Without the ability to communicate and understand a culture on its own terms, true access to that culture is barred. Why is this important?
- It is important because lack of intercultural sensitivity can lead to mistrust and and misunderstanding, to cooperate, negotiate, compromise and perhaps even when doing military confrontation. So, by doing this, it creates positive attitudes and less prejudice towards other people.
4. BE INDEPENDANT AND SURVIVE IN YOUR LIFE
- It can happen either in your daily life or your future purpose.
- For your daily life, knowing multiple languages can help you to interact comfortably with your friends who came from other races.The bond will be strengthened as you understand each other.
- Next, you can avoid being cheated especially when buying things or doing an agreement with people of other races.
- You can also read various newspapers, solve something in case you lost the English manual and even can understand Al-Quran better if you know Arabic
- For your future purposes, you can survive in extreme situation especially when travelling overseas. If you get lost, you can easily ask for the direction or you can look at tourist information boards by yourselves.
- There are many countries which do not use English, so your language ability will allow you to participate in day-to-day life activities that other visitors cannot do.
